Songs
we never recorded but probably should have—old-school
country!
Homespun
is Amy Gallatin & Roger Williams’ second, and long-awaited,
duet project, the first since 2008’s Something ‘Bout
You. The album began as a “shutdown project”
during COVID, as Amy and Roger looked to continue their musical
creativity in the absence of performing opportunities. The project
became an occasion for the pair to record songs that, for one
reason or another, had not made it onto their previous four
albums together, and the relaxed recording schedule gave them
the space to explore their musical roots over time. The result
is a nod to their musical forebears (that’s Amy’s
grandmother on the cover, circa 1920, and Roger’s mom,
singer Gerry Lee, rear photo, 1938) and to classic country music,
the way Roger grew up singing it with his mother. The tunes
are enhanced by Amy and Roger's "go-to" stable of
musicians: Canadian fiddler Ray Legere, Nashville's Jim Hoke
on pedal steel, and New England brothers Bob and Dave Dick on
banjo, bass, and guitar.
